For the Eighth Annual Hudson-EPPC Summer Movie Series, James Bowman, Resident Scholar at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and movie critic for The American Spectator, will present six films on the theme “Middle America and the Movies.” Set in the rural and small towns of America’s Mid-West in the last century, the movie series will exhibit how Hollywood’s ambivalence about what it regards as the heartland’s “innocence” goes a long way back.

The screenings will take place on Tuesday evenings between June 10 and July 15 at Hudson Institute. Each screening will begin with a brief introduction and a discussion with the audience will follow each film.

On Tuesday, June 24th, The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) will be screened. Directed by Orson Welles et al. and adapted by Welles et al. from the novel by Booth Tarkington, the film stars Tim Holt, Joseph Cotten, Dolores Costello, Anne Baxter, Agnes Moorehead, and Ray Collins.
